Whole Body Cryotherapy History

The term “cryotherapy” comes from the Greek words cryo (κρύο) meaning cold, and therapy (θεραπεία) meaning cure. Cryotherapy has been used as a healing modality since the seventeenth century.

Whole Body Cryotherapy (WBC) originated in Japan in 1978, however it was a group of Polish scientists who took the idea and made WBT the physical therapy that it is today. The Olympic rehabilitation center in Spala, Poland opened in May of 2000 and has been used as a training and injury rehabilitation center for athletes of many sports.
